Exploring the Impact of Random Guessing in Distractor Analysis

Multiple-choice (MC) items are widely used in educational tests. Distractor analysis, an important procedure for checking the utility of response options within MC item, can be readily implemented framework item theory (IRT). Although random guessing is a popular behavior test-takers when answering items, none existing IRT models distractor analysis have considered influence this process. In article, we propose new model to distinguish from option functioning. A brief simulation study was conducted examine parameter recovery proposed model. To demonstrate its effectiveness, applied mathematics tests Hong Kong Diploma Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE) 2015 2019.
